Waterproof and weather-resistant, butyl sealant is the perfect product for your outdoor projects.
When it comes to sealing larger joints, butyl sealant is one of the most reliable tools in your arsenal. As well as being excellent at filling those gaps without shrinkage, it also by far the most waterproof sealant available on the market, making it perfect for use with roofs, drains, guttering and other outdoor applications.
That water resistance comes from the fact that butyl rubber sealant is very quick to harden externally, yet still retains a superb elastic quality. The latter gives it exceptional vibrational dampening and the ability to maintain its integrity, even when materials expand or contract as a result of extreme changes in temperature.
If you’re using a butyl rubber sealant for gap-filling outdoors, it’s imperative you use a high quality product. UniBond Roof & Gutter Sealant is specially designed to fill connections and joints in guttering, downpipes, tiles and other roofing applications. Waterproof, UV- and weather-resistant, this butyl rubber sealant is also highly flexible and durable, ensuring long-lasting and effective results with a range of materials.
- Clean. Before using a butyl mastic sealant, ensure all surfaces are dry and free from any dust or dust. Mould and residue from any old sealant or other materials should be completely removed.
- Heat. Butyl joint sealant needs to be heated up before use. Fill a sink or bucket with warm water and submerge it for around 20 minutes.Â
- Prep. If required, cut an aperture in the applicator tube at a 45-degree angle to the match the size of joint you are sealing, bearing in mind that butyl sealant will shrink slightly. Load it into a sealant gun.
- Apply. Starting at one end of the joint, hold the sealant gun at a 30-degree angle and slowly squeeze the trigger to apply an even bead until the other end is reached. Because butyl sealant dries quickly, smooth the bead as soon as you’ve applied it.
- Cure. While butyl sealant dries and attains full strength rapidly, it is important to let it cure fully dry for a couple of days if you want to paint over it.
Unibond has a comprehensive range of sealants to meet your needs.Â
