Whether you’re refitting your bathroom, adding new fixtures, or tidying it up, it’s time to get acquainted with bathroom silicone. Read on to find out how to choose the best bathroom sealant and use it effectively.
You can use bathroom silicone sealants for all kinds of jobs in your bathroom. Whether you need to protect the surfaces around your sinks, seal the joints around the shower, or bathtub, these multitasking sealant products not only seal out moisture and protect from mould, but with a couple of new beads of white bathroom sealant, your bathroom will look good as new.
Bathroom sealant is an adhesive and sanitary silicone which protects your walls and surfaces in high condensation and wet areas from coming into contact with water. Before you apply the sealant, you need to remove the old sealant and make sure that all surfaces are clean and dry and you wear protective glasses and gloves.
There’s no need to remove old or damaged seals with UniBond RE-NEW. Clean the existing sealant and remove any mould with a mould remover. Give the seams time to dry thoroughly. Apply the sealant directly on top of the existing seal and smooth it out with the integrated smoother nozzle. You can watch this video to find out more about using this product:
When it comes to creating new joints with bathroom sealant, there are a number of different products that you can choose from, but the application is generally the same for all of them.
- Prepare the bathroom sealant. Cut the tip of the cartridge above the screw thread and trim the nozzle to size. Load the cartridge into a standard cartridge gun.
- Apply. Place the nozzle at the starting point, then press the trigger and apply a steady bead of bathroom silicone sealant.
- Smooth it out with UniBond’s Sealant Smoother Tool.
Clean tools with white spirit before the sealant has dried. Any dry sealant can only be removed mechanically.
When choosing the right bathroom sealant for your DIY jobs, you need to look out for the following things.
- Good bathroom sealants such as UniBond Kitchen & Bathroom Anti-Mould Sealant, UniBond Kitchen & Bathroom Shower in 1 Hour and UniBond Kitchen & Bathroom Triple Protect Sealant are durable and protect against mould growth
- The sealant must be waterproof and flexible, as it will be used in places where movement is likely and water resistance is paramount
- You should choose a bathroom sealant that is easy to apply. UniBond Kitchen & Bathroom Triple Protect Sealant in the self-propelling Easy Pulse pack is ideal for easily creating new joints, whilst UniBond RE-NEW Sealant is perfect for repairing existing sealant.
