Want to know the basics for using brick sealant? It can be difficult to find a sealant that will bond with brick, stone or concrete – but with the right brick sealant, you can do it all! Read on to find out why this heavy-duty sealant is perfect for all projects involving construction materials.
Brick sealants are designed to create heavy-duty bonds with construction materials like brick and concrete. They’re also designed to create long-lasting seals that are waterproof and weatherproof for outdoor repairs. Whether you need to fill in cracks in your masonry or seal windows, you can’t go wrong with brick sealant.
- Clean. To achieve a durable and long-lasting seal, start by preparing the area. Remove any existing sealant from the brick joints and clear away dust, debris, or loose particles. Make sure the surfaces are completely dry and stable before moving on.
- Prepare. Cut off the cartridge tip just above the screw thread, then trim the nozzle to match the desired bead size. If unsure, start small—you can always widen the opening later. Load the cartridge into your sealant gun and get ready to apply.
- Seal. Begin at one end of the joint, holding the sealant gun at a 30-degree angle. Apply steady pressure to the trigger and guide the nozzle along the joint, filling it smoothly and evenly from one end to the other. Make sure the sealant penetrates the joint properly for maximum effectiveness.
- Smooth. Use a smoothing tool like UniBond’s Sealant Smoother Tool to press the sealant firmly into the joint and shape it for a neat finish. It’s best to do this while the sealant is still wet. Wipe away any excess immediately to avoid smudges or uneven lines.
- Finish. Refer to the drying and curing times specified by the manufacturer. Use white spirit to clean your tools and to remove any excess sealant from the brick surface before it sets. Allow the sealed joints to cure undisturbed for the recommended period.
